A house rewire is when all or some of the wiring has been replaced in a house. This will usually include all accesories like light switches, sockets and fuseboard (consumer unit).
It is recommended to carry out a rewire of a house every 25 years, but this can vary. It is advisable to have a full electrical inspection carried out on your property to establish its overall condition and safety.
- Common problems which might suggest that your property requires a rewire are:
- Out of date wiring, switches and sockets.
- Constantly tripping RCD’s and fuses blowing.
- Old fusebox using fusewire. This does not necessarily mean you need a new fusebox, but you are at risk of electrocution as this old type of fusebox provides little or no protection.
Rewiring a property is quite a large and expensive undertaking and so it is important to engage the services of a fully qualified electrical contractor.
